‘The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.’ Isaiah 40:6
What would you do, if you were dying? (Spoiler alert: that’s all of us, but we rarely let that enter our minds until we have to). This is what you think you would do:
Get all those experiences in! Travel. Visit places you’ve always wanted to go. See wildlife. Take part in extreme sports. Drink fine wine. Eat the contents of Willy Wonka’s factory. Order the most expensive thing on the menu at a swanky restaurant.
This is what you will actually do:
Tax return. Transfer bank accounts to husband. Plan funeral. Look at graveyards and pick a spot. Tax return. Finish all those projects you started. Write letters to your family. Make videos for them. Talk with husband about decisions that may need to be made over the next few years. Where to live. Your youngest’s education. How to encourage his music as he becomes a teenager. How not to allow anyone to give him train track braces as that will wreck his flute playing. Tax return.
Can you tell that I haven’t done my tax return yet?
Our lives have changed entirely. 6 weeks ago Steve and I were working non-stop, enjoying our four children and first little grandchild, cooking, drinking nice wine, watching Netflix. The usual stuff. And now our time is divided between the necessary activities that a terminal diagnosis demands (see above) and medical detective work (see yesterday’s post).
The detective work continued today in earnest, with results! Michael (‘I can talk my way into anything, just give me a minute of your time’) secured me a second opinion with a top consultant at the Royal Marsden next Wednesday. I scored a hit with the chemo option, getting everything brought forward to next week. This does depend on my being assessed as fit enough on Monday for anything to proceed- and I’m not honestly sure how that will go. And getting to the Marsden on Wednesday will be a feat of endurance. But I will do my best.
‘Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.’ Proverbs 3:5-6

Have to say Sam – loved the bit about train tracks and flute – so beautiful 😍
How you write so positively is amazing. I’m not sure I could, fingers crossed I never have to but nothing is guaranteed in this life, except taxes……..so get your tax return done!!
Well done Michael!
More love to all.

I am thankful that the Lord has given you the strength you are needing today and for everyday that He has planned for you as His beloved daughter. If it is His will for you to have many more years your next career could be as a singing or violin doctor!
So thankful that our Lord made it possible for you to be back in your own home. 💜
